De Loofah — Luffa aegyptiaca — is eigenlijk een groente uit de komkommerfamilie die al eeuwenlang wordt gekweekt en gedroogd voor gebruik als natuurlijke exfoliërende spons in Egypte, Azië en Afrika. Lang voordat plastic douchepoufs bestonden, gebruikten mensen over de hele wereld gedroogde Loofah om de huid op natuurlijke wijze te exfoliëren, de bloedsomloop te stimuleren en te reinigen.
